The #OEB15 plenary debate about 21st Century Skills

Last week I had the honor to participate in the plenary debate at Online Educa Berlin. It was great fun, but at the same time pretty difficult as your position to the proposal is a given.

See how I tried to be myself and still defend 21st Century Skills (by saying they don’t exist…)

  1. Pedro! I’m so enthusiastic about what you’re saying in your talk here. I’m a straight A student, very reliable (and profitable) employee… but I was not OK and I eventually realised it’s because I only knew how to earn a living if someone else provided the job. And I only knew how to ‘learn something’ if there was a course available. It was books I happened to pick up on my lunch breaks (my escapes from the open plan office) that sorted me out; novels and biographies from the 18th & 19th Century taught me what to do. It’s very simple actually. We’d all create our own stable, independent roles in society if schools didn’t get in the way with their lessons.
