“Why do we have to change?”

Recently I gave a talk to a group of well experienced businesspeople who asked me to describe young people to them. After I explained that youth as such doesn’t exist, as there are may different youngsters, I gave them an  overview based on our book, with an emphasis on together, optimism and meaning.

After my talk I got a question from someone in the audience, “Why do we have to change? Isn’t someone learning the young people how they can change so they can fit in?”

It’s a good question, because, indeed, as young people grow up, they do need to find a place to fit in, there is a need to adapt to our society.

Actually, they do, to a certain extent as society changes.

But… if you are the one who wants to sell them something?

Well, to put in bluntly, you will need to adapt.

Definitely not by changing who you are, because again, authenticity is crucial, but by starting to listen to them so you can discover what the questions can be that you can give them an answer to.
