I used this video in a keynote I gave earlier this week on technology in education. I explained that I think when you look at eg the Gartner Hype Cycle, but also at the different Horizon reports, it seems we are in the midst of a ‘technobreak’, with no big new technologies popping up. Ok, Oculus Rift or cardboard VR-glasses, but the only real innovation is that they’re cheap. But this technobreak can help us sort out what works and what doesn’t. With the bad report a lot of MOOCs get, we need to get our act together.

I used the video to explain that in sorting things out, we need also a kind of human transformation. Not making us surrender to the machines, of course, but by deciding what a machine can do, and how people use it. Remember the first law of Kranzberg: “Technology is neither good nor bad; nor is it neutral.”
